Bio

My name is Jeremy Bertolino and I have been working and training dogs since 2007. I began
my law enforcement career in 2005 where I quickly realized the K9 Unit was my destiny. I loved
every aspect of working dogs professionally and I just had to get into the K9 Unit. I started
voluntarily training with them weekly for approximately one year. As luck would have it, a
position opened up. Since I had devoted so much time and effort on my own accord, I had more
knowledge than the other candidates; therefore, I landed the position. My first dog was a
Belgian Malinois named Pino. I worked with him through 2010 where he had to retire early due to an
injury. I then selected a Dutch Shepherd named Frankie. I worked with Frankie through the end
of 2014 when I was promoted to Sergeant. Luckily Frankie was nearing his retirement age so I
was able to keep him. I went on to supervise a squad of deputies in the Patrol Division for two
years. I was selected to go to Professional Standards where I learned the inner workings of my
agency and the ability to look at the “big picture.” My experience in Professional Standards
developed me professionally and built a foundation for success to carry me through the rest of
my career. It allowed me to build relationships throughout the agency. During my time in Patrol
and Professional Standards, I continued working with dogs personally and furthering my education
out of a passion for shaping behaviors in dogs. I was promoted to Lieutenant in March 2019
where I went back to Patrol. I was excited about another challenge and approached it with a
motivated mindset in an effort to develop young deputies and sergeants. Five months later, the
K9 Unit Lieutenant position opened up. I jumped at the opportunity and made my way back into
the unit where I am currently working. I now have another Belgian Malinois named Vinnie who is
super motivated and a blast to work with.

In 2011 I attended the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) K9 Trainer school where
I successfully earned my trainer certification. I have continued furthering my education and
teaching others to maintain my certification. Below is a list of some pertinent certifications I’ve
obtained:
Advanced Decoy
Narcotics Detection
Explosive Ordnance Detection
Advanced Marker Training
Basic and Advanced Electronic Collar (NePoPo)
K9 Down First Aid

SWAT Integration
